A school board in Luzerne County has approved a plan to cut nine positions and eliminate some programs.
At a meeting Thursday night in Mountain Top, the Crestwood School Board took up the 2012-2013 budget.
The district faces a shortfall and the proposed budget calls for eliminating eight teaching positions and a school nurse.
Officials also approved getting rid of some district programs.
The proposed budget does not include a tax increase, but some taxpayers in attendance said they would pay higher taxes to keep the staff.
The board will make the final vote on the budget in June.
