The Scranton Police Department announced a member of its K9 Unit died Monday after undergoing emergency surgery for a stomach issue.

“Grizzly” was a member of the unit for the past five years.  The dog worked with Patrolman Gerald Tallo.

The Dutch shepherd aided the police department in drug busts and used his nose to sniff out criminals engaged in illegal activities.

He also wowed crowds with his performances during demonstrations by the department. Officers said Grizzly had a tireless and tough attitude and will be greatly missed by all, according to a police spokesperson.

GRIZZLY CROPPED

The unit plans to find another dog for Patrolman Tallo as soon as possible.

The Scranton Police Department’s K9 Unit has been funded through public proceeds for the past two years.

Anyone interested in helping the K9 Unit can contact the Scranton Police Department.
