Drivers who use the business route 209 bridge in Monroe County will now have to find a new way to get where they're going.
The bridge over McMichael Creek was closed Monday so crews can continue work to rebuild that bridge and some drivers aren't too happy.
It was an unexpected surprise for many drivers as they headed to business route 209 bridge in Hamilton Township near Snydersville. They were forced to turn around and take a detour.
The old stone arch bridge over the McMichael Creek in Monroe County was deteriorating, had weight limits and was restricted to a single lane since December.
Construction crews had to close it altogether to finish repairs.
Driver Betty Theodoropoulos says it was already frustrating when the bridge was down to one lane and now it's even more of a hassle.
"First it was open from the other side, I didn't know that this side was closed also, and it affects me because you always have to detour and it takes longer for where you have to go," said Theodoropoulos.
Hiroko Foloio said it will also be harder for drivers to get to some businesses.
"Well I guess I'll just have to find a way around, and I know it's probably going to effect the Old Mill Pizzeria and all the other businesses over here cause that's the way everyone comes," said Foloio.
Troy Frable who owns Country Express Grocery, says his business was down 35% when the bridge was one lane and now that it's closed things might be worse.
"Well it's going to hurt us, but the way I look at it is, at least now they're working on it. I mean it's been closed since November so it's been hurting it since November and nothing's been done," said Frable.
Right across the street from the grocery store is the Old Mill Pub and owner Bryan Schmidt says he's hoping this closed bridge won't cause hurt his business .
"I'm hoping that it doesn't take too long, I certainly think that it is going to have some effect because it's an inconvenience. But it needs to be done. So we'll see what happens, and I hope that they can do it in a timely fashion at least," said Schmidt.
Construction crews say they hope to have the bridge done by October of this year, but once again that is weather permitting.
