Only five months into her position as Luzerne County district attorney, Stefanie Salavantis was the guest speaker during a memorial service Friday in Wilkes-Barre honoring fallen police officers.
Salavantis also spoke about the recent violent crimes, including last month’s shooting death of 14-year-old Tyler Winstead in Wilkes-Barre and this week’s homicide in Edwardsville.
State police said they still haven’t made any arrests in Wednesday’s shooting, which left one man dead and another injured.
So far there has been no arrests in the Winstead homicide that happened April 5 on Hill Street in Wilkes-Barre either.
Both shootings caused residents to be concerned about the safety of their communities.
“They should not feel fear. We are working with the assistance of my office and the police departments and we are making sure they should not be in fear,” said Salavantis.
She added both investigations continue.
“Time will tell. We are working around the clock. I am working with the police departments, state police, Edwardsville and Wilkes-Barre City police to make sure that the community is safe,” Salavantis said.
