Finally, a perfect forecast for one of Wilkes-Barre's longest traditions.
For the past several years, rain, storms and dreary weather plagued the Fine Arts Fiesta on Public Square, but not this year.
This year more than 60 artists pack the square and thousands of visitors will finally be able to trade their umbrellas for a pair of sunglasses.
Music, art and sunshine are the perfect recipe for the Fine Arts Fiesta on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre.
Thousands of visitors took advantage of the summer-like weather Friday to stroll through the aisles and check out the homemade artwork.
Kristen Keifer of Dallas just moved here from Philadelphia and brought some friends along to see all the craftsmanship basking in the sunshine.
"This is amazing. I love it. Especially since I'm pregnant. It's not too hot for me, I'm not sweating yet. It's early enough," Keifer said.
Vendors said the weather in recent years hardly ever cooperated.
Todd Jeffreys has been selling his handmade stoneware on the square for over 20 years.
"It will be nice. A lot more relaxing than going home and worrying about a thunderstorm taking your booth down. I lost a roof a couple of years ago," said Jeffreys.
"Yesterday was one of the busiest Thursdays I've seen here. We don't have to break down in the rain, don't have to worry about our artwork and we are seeing people who are happy and hopefully they are buying," said Zim Pham of Pham Zim Photograhy.
This is the 57th year for the Fine Arts Fiesta on Public Square. Organizers said the warm and sunny weekend forecast will be a big help to the record number of vendors.
"We've the largest market we've ever had, 63 artists plus a full band scale. It's an extensive festival this year," said executive director Brian Benedetti.
"I love it. I've already been shopping for presents and there's a lot of neat stuff to get here. There are kids in my group and looking for a lot of fun things for them to do," Keifer added.
According to WNEP's Stormtracker 16 team beautiful weather is expected to stick around through Sunday.
