The District 2 AAA Track and Field Championships took place on Wednesday afternoon at Scranton Memorial Stadium under sunny skies.

In the girl's 100 meter dash Katie Gawlas from Dallas won the event in 12.83 seconds.

The boy's 100 meter dash winner was from Honesdale in lane 6. Maliek Torres took home the district title in 11.2 seconds.

Julia Franzosa from Hazleton won the girl's javelin event and set a new district record in the process. Her throw of 135 feet 10 inches breaks the old mark set by Ellen Arnaud from Dallas back in 2009. Arnaud's previous mark was 133 feet 2 inches.

Nick O'Brien from Wyoming Area won the boy's javelin event with a throw of 180 feet 3 inches.

Jenn Slagus from North Pocono set a new district record in the discus with a throw of 134 feet 8 inches. The old mark held by Cassie Schweighofer from Honesdale of 133 feet 9 inches.

Regan Rome from Dallas edged out Summer Hill from Honesdale in the 1600 meter run. Rome finished first in 5:04.

Wallenpaupack set a new district record in the 3200 meter relay and a new winning time of 9:33.

Janni Wilson from Honesdale with a new district record in the girl's long jump a leap of 18-1 1/4 for the district title and the new record.

Boy's high jump champion from North Pocono. Devon Strubert leaps 6-5 for the win.

Boy's 110 high hurdles a photo finish. Ray Deliseo from Pittston Area finishes ahead of Eric Pizarro of Delaware Valley in 15.34 seconds.

Hilari Norris from Wyoming Valley West win the 100 hurdles in 15.37 seconds.

The boy's discus champion for 2012 is from Wallenpaupack and he is only a sophomore.

Anthony Bouselli wins the event with a throw of 160 feet 5 inches. Bouselli qualifies for the state meet next week at Shippensburg.
