The state attorney general’s office charged a man from Lycoming County Tuesday with illegally dumping gas well production water known as brine.

Investigators said in February John Marsh of Jersey Shore got his tanker stuck in mud along a rural road in Clinton County and to lighten the load, he allegedly dumped 200 gallons of brine.

Environmental officials said lab tests detected elevated levels of toxins in the soil where the brine was spilled.
