A fire that broke out Monday in Luzerne County is being labeled as suspicious by a fire chief.

The fire began at an apartment around noon on West Union Street in Nanticoke.

Firefighters reported no one was in building at the time of the fire.

According to fire crews, the fire began on the back porch of the building but never made it inside.

Nanticoke Fire Department contained the fire quickly with only water and smoke damage to the rear of the apartment building.

The fire chief is unsure of the cause and said state police will investigate.
