Two schools in Luzerne County have come together to give students a better chance at higher education.

Wilkes University and Luzerne County Community College announced plans for a dual admissions program at the schools.

Being on track to get a bachelor's degree may never be easier.

At Luzerne County Community College, students now have the chance to go right from LCCC to Wilkes University, thanks to a new dual admissions program.

James Armstrong applied to both schools and thinks this agreement will make things a lot less stressful.

"It definitely sounds like an easier process than doing two years, and then trying to switch every thing over to a four-year. That sounds a lot easier," said James Armstrong of Blakeslee.

The program is pretty simple. Students can go from LCCC right to Wilkes to finish their four-year bachelor degrees.

They are also eligible for a $10,000 scholarship that can be renewed each year as long. As they keep a certain number of credits each semester and keep their grades up, this program guarantees students have the chance of graduating college.

"I think it's better for everybody, everybody wants a bachelor's. It's higher education. Instead of traveling outside the area, you can just go downtown to Wilkes," said freshman Joshua Perrins.

The program will also help to increase the number of students graduating in Luzerne County with bachelor's degrees, a number that is considered to be one of the lowest in the country.

"This is really an effort both to serve students who really deserve this kind of transition, but also to help with man power requirements in the region," said Wilkes University President Tim Gilmour.

"Most importantly, to gain an education to prepare them for the work force and change the quality of their lives," said LCCC President Thomas Leary.

The program takes effect this fall semester.
