A health care facility near Lewisburg is expanding.  Ground was broken Tuesday for an addition to the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.

Priscilla Merritt has lived at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village near Lewisburg for 22 years.

"I find being here is so comforting when you're not feeling well.  They watch over you everyday," Merritt said.

She and others who live at the facility looked on as ground was broken on the $14 million  nursing care center in Union County.

Lennea Brown is the executive director at Buffalo Valley.  She said plans have been in the works for more than 10 years.  She sees a large need for the new facility.

"The building that we are currently utilizing is tired to say the least.  It's been here for many years and we've definitely determined the need for an upgrade," Brown said.

She said the new nursing care center will replace the current one.  Residents will live in home-like environment.

Jane Troutman said she is looking forward to moving into the new facility.  She even helped with the groundbreaking.

"I guess it hasn't sunken in yet.  I don't know maybe when they start building.  That will be exciting. It will look nice," Troutman said.

Officials said construction is set to begin in about two weeks and will last about a year.  Residents will move from the old building to the new one and the old one will be town down.
