More Arsons in Williamsport

Fire investigators have two more cases of arson on their hands in the Newberry section of Williamsport.

Officials said the charred porch of a vacant home along Dove Street was the most recent target.

A nearby dumpster was also set on fire.

In the middle of the night neighbor Joanne Mazzante worried it was her porch burning.

“I heard this noise, a bang like, I looked out and there was yellow and everything. I knew it was fire,” said Mazzante.

Investigators roped off another arson scene nearby. Signs went up letting people know someone set five fires which may not have done a lot of damage but could end up putting lives at risk.

Neighbors said they are worried a possible fire bug could hurt someone.

“It’s a real crime. People don’t have respect for other people’s property anymore it seems like,” said Clarence Betts.

“It’s very scary, because it’s only a block away from the other ones. We know the couple who lost the trailer, camper,” said Mazzante.

Three fires Monday, two Wednesday morning and in order to catch whoever is behind the similar arsons officials want the public to call in any tips, anything suspicious to help catch those responsible before it is too late.

The arson hotline is 570-327-7575 or 327-1534.
