The corruption trial for former State Senator Ray Musto of Luzerne County could be in jeopardy because of health issues.
The 83 year old from Pittston Township was scheduled to go to trial in June on charges he took tens of thousands of dollars in bribes, but his attorney filed a motion with the court Monday arguing that Musto is not healthy enough to stand trial.
According to the motion, Musto’s doctors said he is suffering from liver disease.
U.S. Attorney Peter Smith then asked the court to have another medical expert investigate Musto’s health and give a second opinion on whether Musto is physically able to stand trial.
Musto’s trial is scheduled for June 4.
