Alexandre Picard used Colin McDonald’s stick to re-direct a shot in the first period on Friday night against Hershey for the 1-0 lead.
It was the first goal for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins against Hershey in this best of five opening round series.
And again in the second the power play worked when Jason Williams found Cal O’Reilly near the back of the net. O’Reilly slipped one past goalie Dany Sabourin for the 2-0 lead.
The Pens won the game 3-1, Hershey erased goalie Brad Thiessen’s shutout big by scoring late in the third period.
Colin McDonald added his second goal in the third period on a 2 on 1 rush. McDonald put the puck in the back of the net for the 3-0 lead.
Thiessen made 19 of 20 saves and the Pens lead this series 1-0,
