April is sexual assault awareness month and a community rallied in Lackawanna County to stand up for the cause.

The Women's Resource Center, along with the University of Scranton, Marywood University, and Keystone College came together for an event Thursday night called Take Back The Night.

Participants marched through downtown Scranton to courthouse square.

People at the event said they wanted to send a clear message to the victims of sexual assault.

“There’s help out there. They’re not alone is the most important message and this is a night to come together to show that support, to say ‘you’re not alone,’” said Jeane Decker.

Thursday night's program included guest speakers, music, and a candlelight vigil.
