There will soon be a new and cheaper way to get to Florida.

Allegiant Tuesday announced nonstop flights from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport to Orlando, Florida.

Allegiant offers low-cost flights with some as low as $83.99 one way.

Allegiant will fly twice a week beginning in June to the Orlando Sanford Airport at discounted prices.

"Fantastic. I know my folks head down there regularly so it's not only ease and convenience and a great price," said Elizabeth Crittenden, whose parents live near Wilkes-Barre.

Airport and airline officials along with local politicians announced the new flights, which brought a smile to travelers' faces.

Newswatch 16 caught up with Janelle Fox just as she was getting ready to begin her Orlando vacation.

"I would totally do it because that's where I'm going now and it's cheaper than what I paid and non-stop is fantastic because I won't have a layover somewhere," said Fox.

Travel agent Valerie Berzanski of Tucker's Travel Shoppe in Wilkes-Barre compared the prices between the non-stop flights from Allentown and the ones coming here. She found people who used to drive to Allentown to fly non-stop to Florida on Allegiant will actually save a few bucks.

"We've been trying to get this and hopefully people will support the airline that will stay here at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport," said Berzanski.

"This is great news that Allegiant will be serving northeast Pennsylvania with service to Orlando," said airport director Barry Centini. "Orlando is one of our top destinations and we are excited that Allegiant will provide our area's families and businesses with convenient, nonstop service to Orlando."

Service begins June 21 and will offer two flights a week.
