Pottsville police charged a woman Friday with the death of her one-year-old son.

The incident happened nearly two weeks ago, and neighbors are still outraged.

Jennifer Bossler, 28, of Pottsville is charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault after the death of her 13-month-old son, James.

Pottsville police said on Friday, she admitted suffocating the child because he would not stop crying and asking for his father.

On April 1, investigators said emergency crews were called to Bossler's apartment building on West Market Street for reports of a child in cardiac arrest.

James was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Stephanie Edwards lives in the building and said the crime was shocking.

"It's kind of scary to think. She seemed like a good person, a good mom. Nobody would have ever thought," said neighbor Stephanie Edwards. "I'm a mom myself and I would never lose it like that. It's kind of hard to believe."

According to police, when officers arrived at the apartment, they found Bossler doing CPR on her son. She told them she put him down for a nap and found him not breathing. She later admitted to police that she caused her son's death after the boy would not stop crying.

"I saw the ambulance guy bringing out the baby and it was limp. It was a fat little baby and it just wasn`t there. I thought maybe it was choking and that they`d bring it back. I came running out and I`m yelling to the mother in the cop car, `Is your baby okay?` She wouldn`t say anything," said neighbor Danielle Montone.

Bossler told police she became frustrated when James would not stop asking for his father.

Investigators said Bossler admitted to suffocating her child in his crib.

"To have a little baby die because she`s frustrated? No. She could`ve taken that baby to a church, city hall, to a hospital. They would have found a home for that baby," said Linda Deiter of Pottsville.

Danielle Montone has four children of her own and said James' death, allegedly by his mother's hand, is a tragedy.

"That poor little boy. His name was James and just, what was going through his head as he sees his mommy hurting him? That's just unbearable. I feel so bad for that baby that he didn`t have a chance," added Montone.

Jennifer Bossler is locked up in the Schuylkill County jail and is not eligible for bail.
