A health care business announced Friday it is bringing what it calls 60 good-paying jobs to Lackawanna County and it expects many more jobs to be added soon.

The company called MAXIMUS said salaries will range from $45,000 to $65,000 a year at its new location in Moosic and it is now hiring.

It's the kind of announcement the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce strives for, announcing a company bringing good paying jobs to area.

That is what the company MAXIMUS is bringing to an office building on Montage Mountain in Moosic.

"This is an extraordinary because it offers opportunities for skilled people, for college graduates and paying national class wages, the kind of wages we need to stop the brain drain," said Austin Burke of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.

MAXIMUS helps governments with Medicare and other insurance filing and claims.

Its president said he sees plenty of skilled workers available for its offices here. They are hiring nurses, physical therapists, financial experts and more.

"A great community with the right kind of family values with the right kind of work force with the right kind of work ethic," said MAXIMUS President Tom Romeo.

MAXIMUS plans to bring 60 jobs here right now, but the CEO said that could double in a year and a half or so and he tells the chamber of commerce the company could grow five times as much in the coming years.

"We plan to grow and we think the community can support that growth with the right kind of people and right kind of work ethic," Romeo added.

The CEO said the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton and other health care facilities here make this an attractive place for his company with many possibilities for future hires.

Chamber of commerce and other business leaders said they are trying to market the presence of the medical college to many companies like MAXIMUS.

"With the Commonwealth Medical College here in our area we're seeing the increase in opportunity in being able to spin off different kind of businesses," said Rich Beasley with The Scranton Plan.

"This is the first of a couple companies that we hope to announce that will be in that sector," Burke added.

MAXIMUS officials said they expect to begin work in about a month.
