A retreat center in Lackawanna County was trashed by thieves who stole all kinds of metal for scrap and, police said, they were caught in the act.
Five buildings at the Annunciation Church Retreat Center just off Route 107 in Scott Township are a mess.
Over the last year or so, police said, thieves have broken in and ripped apart the ceilings and walls to steal copper pipe and other metals.
Late last week an off-duty police officer said he caught brothers Shane and Lyle Hugaboom inside one of the buildings take some of the scrap.
Members of the church are trying to secure the buildings.
The church from New Jersey was planning to bring Hundreds of people to the facility for retreats.
The estimated damage is more than $200,000.
