There was quite a surprise for a family walking into their barn this weekend in Lycoming County when they noticed one of the walls was gone.
The family said someone crashed their vehicle into their barn over the weekend and then drove away.
Police said that hit-and-run driver has still not been found.
The family said the barn is more than 100 years old and has a lot of history behind it.
Kimberlee Croucher and her family live on Village Road in Pennsdale. When her husband walked outside Saturday morning he saw the damage to the barn.
"During the night between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. someone came down the street at a high rate of speed and came down the embankment and hit the side of the barn," Croucher said.
She added the person behind the wheel drove through the family's cornfields outside Williamsport and left the scene. Croucher said the barn is more than 100 years old and was used as a slaughterhouse for a local general store. She is not sure if the historic barn can be saved.
"Right now we're not 100 percent sure if it's stable. We're bringing more people over to look at it today to figure out if it can stay up or be torn down," Croucher said.
In addition to the entire wall being taken out there was damage inside the barn too. A pool table was banged up and so were some of the children's toys.
"We liked to play with a lot of things that were out here and they all got broken. Now we can't use them because we don't know if it might catch on fire," said Emily Croucher.
Insurance adjusters checked out the barn and told Croucher the damage on the building itself is more than $5,000. She calls the hit and run unsettling.
"We try to teach our kids integrity and how important it is to be responsible for your actions and it's sad that it happened and someone might get away with it," Croucher said.
