Easter Sunday has been snowy, rainy, and sometimes as sunny and a tad warmer than this Easter, but no matter the weather, thousands head to church for the most important holiday on the Christian calendar.
Each of the churches in our area holds its own Easter service that is distinct and unique.
The new City Lights Church Easter service in Scranton almost feels like a folk rock concert.
For some this is Christianity 2012.
“It`s a contemporary model basically that what church today looks like. You go back a couple of hundred years and it's constantly changing,” said Pastor of City Lights Christian Church, Jared Ruddy.
It’s more informal than many are used to.
The faces are a bit younger than congregations at most churches.
People, however, said their commitment to Christianity on Easter Sunday is just as intense as it is at any other house of worship.
“I’m very impressed with this whole generation of young people that is just so out to sharing the gospel and reaching out to the community, and trying to make a difference in people`s lives,” said Debbie Kresge of Dupont.
The same commitment in a different, far more traditional church takes place across town.
At the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Scranton, Easter Sunday combines celebration, renewal, and a commitment to be better.
“It’s kind of time to change us to ask ourselves to get busy living or get busy dying and to take the Easter message and to live life,” said Father Joe Sica of Immaculate Conception Church.
Easter worship also took on a traditional form at Dunmore Presbyterian Church.
One worshiper simply said Easter is just another Sunday, but more important than all the other Sundays of the year.
“Easter’s very important. It's the resurrection of our lord. That is what we commemorate and that's the reason we’re here,” said Jack Solsman of Dunmore.
