Police have few answers about a homicide investigation in Schuylkill County.

A neighbor in Mahanoy City said Thursday night he found a man dead. Police believe the victim may have been dead several days.

It is a shock to neighbors who are now concerned about their safety.

Police were on the scene along West Center Street in Mahanoy City for about 17 hours, investigating the killing of a man found dead inside his home.

A neighbor said he made the discovery after he hadn't seen his friend in a few days.

When word spread through the neighborhood that it was a homicide there was a lot of shock.

"He's been here since he was born. I've known him since he was a baby," said neighbor Pat Kurdinsky. She lives a few houses down the street.  She can't believe her neighbor was killed. "I didn't know what was going on.  I just came home from church and I saw police cars all over the place and I didn't know what was going on until my neighbor called me."

"It's scary. It's scary. I lock my doors every night," said neighbor Denise Sisak.

A lot of people along the street said they are nervous, especially since police have not said if this is a random killing or if the victim was targeted.

"I said to my husband I spoke to someone two weeks ago at that address on the phone about oil because I work at Skytop and we delivered it to him and I thought, 'Oh my God,'"  Sisak added.

"I never expected, not him. He was a quiet guy. He never bothered anybody really. No one, Kurdinsky added. "It's just terrible that this had to happen. It's very upsetting, really."

Police towed away the victim's car from in front of the house. The neighbor who found him said the car was one thing that made him think something was wrong. He said it was parked differently than usual.

He said inside the house looked a bit disheveled too.

Other than that, people living there are getting few answers.

"It's scary it really is. It's the block we live in," said neighbor Ted Sisak.

"He was very quiet and very kind and we still don't know what's going on," said neighbor Annemarie Lumia. "We moved here from Trenton, New Jersey about 12 years ago because the crime was getting so bad there. Now we don't know what to think. It's scary."

"I woke up this morning and people were just asking questions and I just answered them," said Joey Lumia.

Police still have not released the victim's name.  They said they are trying to notify family.
