Not many people can say they celebrated their 103 birthday and even fewer people can say they celebrated it by dancing the polka.
Witty and spry Viola Michels of Falls Township celebrated her birthday Thursday at the Pittston Senior Center.
"What does it feel like? Just a regular normal day. Just another day," Michels said.
Her daughter, Carolyn Smith, said there is nothing regular about her mother. She calls her a special, special woman.
"She had a hard life, a really hard life and I'm proud of her for it, that she lived through what she did," Smith said.
"All the things she has gone through in her life I would just love to be able to sit down and talk with her and let her share her experiences. She has been through so much in her 103 years," said Connie Andrews of Pittston Senior Center.
Of course you can't fit 103 candles on the birthday cake but there were three at Michel's request and each stands for something special, health, wealth and happiness.
Michels, who said she watches WNEP's Joe Snedeker every morning, shared her secret on living such a long, healthy life.
"When you eat chew your food good. Don't inhale it and eat all cooked foods not uncooked foods," Michel said.
Of course, being in the Wyoming Valley, no centenarian's party is complete without a polka dance.
Michels showed she's still got it and shows no signs of slowing down.
