In just about a month from now thousands of college students will be on summer break, and the search is on for a summer job.
For some students, it's not easy to find work between semesters.
Spring fever may be in full effect at King's College in downtown Wilkes-Barre, but as students stress over their upcoming finals some still search for a summer job.
"I filled out 20 applications and still haven`t gotten a call back. I called there and they said they are still reviewing them and that was like six months ago that I filled out all of those. It`s really hard. It is," said Eric Kocher of Wilkes-Barre.
Part of Jamie Guilford's job at King's College is to help students find summer work.
"A job search is not easy. It's not something you can do halfheartedly. You've got to put in the time and effort to make sure it comes into a successful conclusion," said Guilford.
"I looked early so I didn't have any problems. I ended up working for Wilkes University and I applied last year and went through the process. Fortunately I was hired and I am returning this summer," said Anthony Gelf of Wilkes-Barre.
Other students like Mike Blessing already heard back from employers. The news wasn't good for him.
"I've already applied to two places and within a week or two they emailed me back and saying that we regret to inform you but we can't continue further discussions with you so I don't know what it is, but I am looking for a summer job," said Blessing.
The career counselors at King's College said students shouldn't just drop off an application and walk away. They said they should follow up, make a phone call, and keep checking in with the potential employer.
"Sometimes it's easy for the employers and sometimes it's that phone call that can spur an employer to take a second look at your application," added Guilford.
The career counselors at King's College said students should stop by their college's career centers because the summer jobs are out there, but if they haven't began looking yet they should start right away.
