The Department of Environmental Protection has approved a change to Keystone Sanitary Landfills which will allow facilities to increase its daily acceptance of trash.

The Lackawanna County facility located in Dunmore and Throop boroughs, can now receive about 7,500 tons of trash daily. The modification adds nearly 2,000 tons of trash allowed in each category.

DEP officials also modified the handling of landfill gas odors.

Keystone Sanitary crews drilled 37 additional gas wells to capture landfill gas.  Crews also added flares and installed caps across 21 acres of its Lackawanna County facility with additional capping set to begin this month.

The company also plans to increase patrols for nuisance odors and put measures in place to immediately report problems to the municipalities.
