Last season the Lycoming College Warrior football team suffered two losses and finished with a record of (8-2). The first loss was by three points to Widener and the second a 10 point loss at the hands of Delaware Valley. The 2012 team assembled in Williamsport on Monday is enthusiastic and optimistic about the upcoming season.
This is year five for Mike Clark as the head football coach of Lycoming College. Known for their tough tenacious defense the Warriors return eight on that side of the ball,
But the buzz in camp centers around the offense and the skill guys returning there including starting quarterback Zach Klinger.
"I mean we return really good skill and that's exciting because we really don't graduate a significant contributor in terms of the offense skill positions," said Mike Clark.
The big thing this spring for Lycoming is finding some new offensive lineman. Already coach Clark is moving a few players around and that includes defensive tackle Roger Jayne from Lake Lehman.
Jayne could be used in a variety of ways.
"Spring ball is a big part of the whole process. We graduated two All-Americans on defense and a few All-Conference offensive lineman. So the younger guys we have to teach them. You can't really practice game situations. This is the closest we can get," said Roger Jayne.
Cody Moyer from Lehighton will anchor that offensive line.
"We have some depth. We're young. We bring two starters back and another kid played a pretty key role last year Casey Strauss(who was a freshman) he got a lot of playing time, so if we all keep working together we should be alright," said Cody Moyer.
Matt Talerico from Riverside is finishing a fine four year career at Lycoming.
"The spring is huge right now. I know we have eight returning starters and some new guys that can step in and really help us out next year. Mainly in the spring we're just working on getting down the calls getting ready for offenses so we know all switches coming in the first week. We want to pick up right where we left off last year," said Matt Talerico.
"When you can say you return eight starters on defense off the the number three ranked defense in the country that's a pretty good starting point two." again said Mike.
Lycoming starts with Brockport on September 1st.
