A big clean-up effort in Luzerne County needs some help this weekend.  Volunteers will be cleaning up the mess left along the river banks after record flooding.

The Susquehanna River hit a record crest where it meets the Lackawanna River in the Duryea area. That left all kinds of debris in Duryea, especially along the banks of the Lackawanna.

A group is putting out a plea for volunteers to help clean the mess on Saturday.

The Lackawanna River Corridor Association says hundreds of tires, pieces of homes, even a booth from a restaurant litter the area just off Coxton road.

“There’s part of a restaurant here, there are parts of homes and cottages that were destroyed in the flood last year,” Bernie McGurl, the LCRA director. “It’s really sad to see all the debris here.”

If you want to take part in the clean-up, stop by from 10 a-m to 2 p-m Saturday where Coxton Road meets the Lackawanna River in Duryea, look for all the signs and wear your work clothes and boots.
