Fans waited for hours Thursday night at the Cinemark in Lackawanna County for the midnight release of “The Hunger Games.”
So let “The Hunger Games” begin!
After waiting for the much anticipated release of “The Hunger Games,” fans camped out at the Cinemark in Moosic to watch the midnight premier.
Many were hoping the odds would be ever in their favor of getting a good seat.
“Well, we heard there was a lot of people here already so we wanted to get here early,” said Leah Moore of Wyoming.
“We have to make sure we get a good seat,” said Lauren Perry of Wyoming.
Maybe that aggressive attitude is fitting for this movie, which is about teenagers forced to battle to the death.
Based on the young adult novel by Suzanne Collins, “The Hunger Games” is set in a post-apocalyptic world in the nation of Panaem.
Every year the capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each of the 12 districts as tributes.
Forced into an arena, they fight each other on live television until only one is left standing.
The main character is Katniss Everdeen, 16, who volunteers as tribute in place of her younger sister.
While there’s violence, there’s romance as Katniss struggles between two love interests, all while trying to stay alive.
“It’s just like so action-ness and so adventurous,” said Addison Orzeo of Wyoming. “It has like everything, it has the love triangle, it has action and adventure and it’s just really cool.”
“The love between Katniss and Peeta definitely attracts a lot of women but then the action and the fighting definitely attracts a lot of guys, so it’s a little bit of everything,” said Michael Murphy.
The movie is not just for the young, but also the young at heart.
Wyoming Area teacher Amy Kosco’s sixth grade class brought her along.
“I literally read all three books, one on a Friday, one on a Saturday, one on a Sunday,” said Kosco. “They’ve been talking about this since the beginning of the year and so they talked me into coming.”
Well at least that’s one teacher who won’t be wondering why her classroom is empty come Friday morning.
