On this Saint Patrick`s Day, many people are celebrating all things Irish. In Williamsport, they celebrated with the city's first St. Patrick's parade.
The sounds of Ireland kicked off the city of Williamsport`s first ever St. Patrick`s Day parade.
Hundreds of people turned out wearing their green, watching festive balloons and floats make their way down West Fourth Street.
"I`m impressed. It looks like a really good turnout, a lot of people came out and it`s really fun," said Christian Calehuff of Montoursville.
Christian Calehuff brought his kids out to see the sights.
"I think they just like watching the different trucks go by, the lights, the sirens. They get excited about getting the candy and beads and things like that," he added.
Those who attended were celebrating being Irish, or Irish for the day.
Erin Morse and her sister got all decked out for the special day.
"Because it`s St. Patrick`s Day. We love doing that," said Erin Morse of South Williamsport.
Many of the hundreds of people who lined the parade route said what better day to start an Irish celebration in the city than St. Patrick`s Day.
"Cause everybody`s kind of in the spirit of St. Patty`s day, this is great," said Bill Flynn of Loyalsock. "Totally unexpected that the parade was going to be so large and so many people turned out and it`s such nice day today."
A leprachaun seemed to have brought the luck of the Irish, with lots of sunshine for the inaugural parade, making it a fun first for baby Sophia Sartori.
"I think it`s going well so far. I think the good weather brought everybody out and it`s fun to hear all the bagpipers," said her mother Lindsay Sartori of Duboistown.
It would not be a parade without candy for the kids.
Chris Martin's children took part in it all.
"They loved passing out the candy and walking and seeing the rest of the kids," said Chris Martin of Williamsport.
"This is the start of something really big. For a first time, it`s really escalated right away," added Flynn.
With the first Williamsport St. Patrick's parade a success, many said they look forward to celebrating all things Irish for years to come.
