A mine subsidence opened Friday afternoon on a busy road in Peckville.

PennDOT checked out the hole along Keystone Avenue (Route 247) before closing a section from Main Avenue to Pleasant Avenue.

Officials from Harrisburg said the hole is about 25 feet and about 25 feet wide at the bottom.

PennDOT crews also dug up part of the pavement so officials from Harrisburg could determine how deep the hole is and what caused it to open.

Crews were also on the scene stabilizing a utility pole nearby so it wouldn’t fall into the hole.

That section of Keystone Avenue will remain closed until at least Monday night.
