We all know Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and even Girardville have Saint Patrick's Day parades that date back years.

But for Williamsport, the central Pennsylvania city is just starting a tradition of Irish celebration.

One day before Williamsport's first ever Saint Patrick's Day Parade steps off, workers were hanging decorations at City Hall.

Signs were posted warning drivers parking Saturday along the parade route is off limits. What started as an idea for a pub crawl is now set for a big-time Irish celebration.

"Bagpipers, a giant happy lucky leprechaun balloon like at the Macy's parade. It's going to look like Cirque de Soleil going down the street," said parade organizer Brenda Everett.

Downtown bars are looking to cash in on the parade. The Shamrock Grille always throws a bash but expects this year will see bigger crowds, all dressed in green.

"It is a tradition, it always has been and we have a melting pot here, very good people, customers. Everyone has a good time," said owner Peggy Leta

Festivities kick off 11 a.m. Saturday on West Fourth Street and wrap up in businesses, mostly bars, in Billtown.
