A teenager was sentenced Thursday for causing a crash that killed a toddler in Lackawanna County.

David Ranakoski, 17, of Scranton was sentenced to one to two years in jail.

In November he pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle and DUI.

Prosecutors said the car Ranakoski was driving slammed into the back of  Jeep last May on Dark Region Road near Clarks Summit.

A toddler, 22-month-old Cole Hazleton was in that Jeep and died after the vehicle burst into flames.

Both of Cole Hazleton’s parents asked Judge Vito Geroulo for a strict sentence for Ranakoski.   The judge said he took into consideration the fact that Ranakoski did not post bail when he was charged when determining the teen’s sentence.
