Investigators in South Carolina are trying to determine if a body found Monday night is that of an elderly man who disappeared from his Monroe County home several weeks ago.

Police are not saying if the body found is that of Joseph DeVivo, but officials in South Carolina said they found the body after the main suspect in the case told them exactly where to look.

Joseph DeVivo, 87, disappeared several weeks ago from his Stroud Township home. On February 25, police in Charlotte, North Carolina arrested Rico Herbert after they found him driving DeVivo's 2012 Chevy Malibu. Police also found DeVivo's wallet.

Devivo was reported missing on February 25 and had not been seen at his home where he lived alone along Route 209 near Stroudsburg since at least February 23.

The Lancaster County South Carolina sheriff said Herbert told them where to find DeVivo's body. A search team located a body in a rural area by a creek and out of sight from any main roads or driveways.

Herbert remains in a Charlotte, North Carolina jail charged with receiving stolen property. Police said Herbert is a person of interest in the disappearance of Joseph DeVivo, but they have not charged him.

Officials have not identified the body.

Newswatch 16 contacted DeVivo's son, Joseph, who praised investigators and said, "We are grateful for the incredible outpouring of support. We ask for continued prayer and support as this situation unfolds, and for prayers for the families of all missing persons."

An autopsy is schedule for 9 a.m. Wednesday. That is when, officials said, they will release the name of the body found in South Carolina.
