It's not uncommon to hear the saying, "There's an app for that." Now Pennsylvania's Liquor Control Board has come out with an application that will come in handy when you're looking for a certain bottle of wine.
Have you ever been on your way to a dinner party and needed to pick up a bottle of wine, and didn't know where the closest liquor store was? The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has come up with a solution to the problem.
The LCB came out with a new iPhone app called "Fine Wines Good Spirits." The free smart phone application shows users the location of the closest Wine & Spirits Store. It also shows which products are in stock and on sale at that store.
"I think it's fantastic. I've had difficulties in the past trying to locate a store. Definitely knowing what products they have is going to be awesome," said Reginald Edwards of Lewisburg.
The app is actually really easy to use. Say you are in a restaurant enjoying a great bottle of wine, and you want to see if your local liquor store has it. You just click scan and go up to the bar code on the bottle. It takes a picture of it, tells you the price, and you can check in-store availability.
"I don't think I would use it, but there are people that their smart phones are so important to them. They'd download it in a minute to see what they'd need if they were having a party and see what's on special. I have no problem with it," said Freddy Carlip of Lewisburg.
Not everyone likes the idea. Newswatch 16 showed the app to Jerome Todd of Lewisburg.
"I think it's completely ridiculous. You shouldn't need an app to tell you where to get drunk. I think it's kind of unnecessary," said Todd.
The LCB said a similar app for the Droid will be available in a few weeks. Officials also said they are still working out a few quirks, but just like a fine wine, the LCB expects the app to get better with age.
