The face of the Pennsylvania Lottery Commission, Gus the Groundhog, is going back to his hole.
The lottery commission has announced it will no longer make commercials featuring Gus.
According to a spokesperson for the commission, Gus has served his purpose and the commission will be moving in a new direction.
Cost was also a consideration when it came to ending the Gus commercials. Each one cost between $300,000 to $400,000 to produce. More than 30 Gus commercials were made over the past eight years. A commercial without Gus runs the lottery commission about $250,000 to produce.
The lottery spokesperson said Gus may not be gone for good. He may make an appearance again sometime in the future.
