Wilkes-Barre police are investigating the discovery of bones in a city neighborhood.

Police were called to a vacant lot on Loomis Street in Wilkes-Barre about 3 p.m. Monday after neighbors reported finding what they called rather unusual bones. One neighbor said it looked like a knee with a knee cap and some tissue.

Officers were seen going through the lot, putting down evidence markers and taking photographs.

They said they retrieved about a dozen bones.

Luzerne County Deputy Coroner Tom Moran was called to the scene. He said at this point he can't say if the bones are human. They will be sent to a lab and be examined by a pathologist.

Moran added a discovery like this is not unusual and the coroner's office gets calls like this several times a year.
