Hundreds of people were in a Northumberland County church Friday to say goodbye to three family members killed in a crash in Florida.
Three members of the Rosini family were led to their finial resting place. Bishop Joseph McFadden said the Mass at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Elysburg, flanked by several priests.
Pall bearers escorted the casket of William Rosini from the church, while the ashes of James Rosini and his wife, Patricia, were side-by-side, hand-held vaults.
Police said former Northumberland County Judge James Rosini went through a flashing red light in Florida, causing a van to crash into his car. The van was driven by a man from South Williamsport.
Rosini, his wife, Patricia, brother William, along with a family friend, Deborah Korbich, were killed. They were on vacation.
"When you hear of an accident and four people, lives were taken and it's people you know really well, you just can't imagine something like that happening that way," said family friend Merle Phillips.
"I was in shock, I just couldn't believe it," said cousin Jim Stewart. "Just that they're gone and I won't ever see them again."
He was one of hundreds of people who came to say goodbye to the Rosinis. There were so many in attendance, the funeral procession stretched about a mile long.
The Rosinis are remembered as special people. James Rosini also served as district attorney and assistant county solicitor. Patricia Rosini was the assistant director at the county Area Agency on Aging.
"We're going to miss Pat because she was one of a kind and Jim and Billy. One of the greatest people in this county. I am going to pray for them every day," said Northumberland County Commissioner Vinny Clausi.
"Very giving people they were involved in the community so much," Stewart added.
Some feel the funeral Mass has started the emotional healing process.
"I am a man of faith and I know they are in a better place and sure, always this service gives you peace," said Representative Kurt Masser of the 107th District.
"When they went and met the Lord that they did surrounded by people they loved, and if there is a positive to see in all this, it's that," said Commissioner Rick Shoch.
Another funeral will be held this weekend for Deborah Korbich, the last of the four victims who died in that crash in Florida.
