Many school districts in our area have a long weekend in observance of the Presidents' Day holiday.
The weekend is also the last big winter weekend of the season that Pocono resorts count on to make money.
Even with the unseasonably mild winter we've been having, the crowds are starting to pour in.
A crowd of skiers and snowboarders spending the day at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area near Marshalls Creek is a good start to the most important time for the Pocono Mountains.
It's Presidents' Day weekend.
"This 10 days is the biggest time for us traditionally. As important as Christmas week is, this one is bigger in terms of total skiers that show up, the amount of lessons we give, the amount of rentals," said Jim Tust of Shawnee Mountain Ski Area.
He added business on the mountain and beyond is expected to pick up over the weekend and into next week, especially with students having off for the holiday. Already, some families got an early start.
"We went snow tubing last Sunday. We've been here for a week. So we went snow tubing, we've been boarding every day. Yesterday we did take a trip home because my husband had to go to work for a day and we came back up," said Kerri Rybasack of New Jersey.
Although the area in the Poconos isn't covered in snow, that isn't stopping people from coming through the doors of resorts and hotels to enjoy the weekend ahead.
At Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort near Delaware Water Gap, guest after guest was unpacking and heading inside.
"If you would have asked me a week ago, I would have said Presidents' week looks terrible. In the last three days I think people have just decided they're going to come," said Rob Howell, of Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort.
The Inn usually requires a three-night stay but recently dropped that due to the weather and said it helped bring in more guests.
"To get away from the city and to have a good time with my family," said Jason Breschard of New Jersey.
"We're probably going to go shopping, go out and find some restaurants, bars and go skiing tomorrow, tubing, that sort of thing," said Brian Sullivan of New Jersey.
