Governor Tom Corbett signed a new bill Monday that will mean several changes for natural gas drilling in the Marcellus shale region.
The bill focuses on protecting natural resources through stronger environmental standards.
It also allows each county to impose impact fees, fees that natural gas drillers must pay for each well, and helps the state move toward energy independence.
Critics argue the new bill takes away power from individual communities since drilling regulations will now be under state control.
