Got a flat? Most of us would just replace it with the spare tire from the trunk.
Nowadays, however, the spare tire is being left out of more and more new vehicles.
New vehicles like the ones on the lot of Van Campen Motors in Williamsport come with all sorts of new features and technology.
One thing missing on a few dozen new makes and models is the spare tire, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic.
The growing trend is news to Justin Gray from Jersey Shore.
"It doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. First it's a safety issue. If you're stranded on the road you have no spare tire then what?" questioned Gray.
Instead of a spare tire, some new vehicles come with an inflator kit or with tires that can run short distances without air.
Gray and his fiancee are looking for a new car and said if there is no spare it could be a deal breaker.
"I would seriously think twice if it didn't have a spare tire. Definitely look for a different model or different brand," added Gray.
According to AAA, tire related problems and flats accounted for 16 percent of the two million emergency roadside assistance calls last year in the Mid-Atlantic region. Now AAA wants people to know the new car they might be buying may not have the spare they are used to.
"Right now the manufacturers are after anything that will raise the fuel mileage of a vehicle," said Josh Van Campen.
He added tire technology is so good that fix a flat systems are just as good as a spare in the trunk.
"They come with air generator and canister that's good for two tires. You can run up to 150 miles on it to get to the nearest shop," he added.
