A year-long drug investigation in Wilkes-Barre netted guns and tens of thousands of dollars in narcotics.
Officials made the announcement Thursday afternoon at police headquarters in Wilkes-Barre.
Undercover police from Wilkes-Barre and Plains Township worked together to net what they call one of the largest drug busts in several years in Wilkes-Barre. Police also named their three main suspects.
Leon Berry and brothers Anthony and Raymond Davis, all from Long Island, conspired to sell large amounts of cocaine, heroin and prescription pills in northeastern Pennsylvania, according to police. Officials raided several places in the city but would not say where because the investigation is still ongoing.
Because of the amount of weapons involved, Wilkes-Barre Police Chief Gerard Dessoye said it was a dangerous job.
"There are some significantly high end firearms today fortunately we issue our officers high end firearms also and try to provide them as much protection as possible," said Chief Dessoye.
The year-long investigation turned up a wide variety of drugs and weapons, including a bag of pure heroin that officials said is rare in northeastern Pennsylvania. The total street value of these drugs is estimated at $60,000.
"I have to applaud the excellent work these departments did. Cracking down on crime and illegal drugs being brought into Luzerne County, that is what I want to see and what I intend to see in the future," said District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis.
Raymond Davis is being held at the Luzerne County jail on $100,000 bail. The other two suspects, Leon Berry and Anthony Davis, are out on bail.
Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tom Leighton said it is sad to see this type of activity taking place in the city, but also reassuring to know police did their job.
Officials said more arrests in connection to the raid are likely.
