The new county council in Luzerne County chose a manager Tuesday night.
Robert Lawton, 49, is a management analyst for Solano County, California, just north of San Francisco.
As manager, Lawton will oversee Luzerne County’s finances as well as some of the county’s hiring.
“The county manager isn’t a dictator. The county manager isn’t a president. The county manager provides advice and carries out the policies established by the council,” Lawton said.
Lawton takes over as Luzerne County’s manager on February 21.
His hiring is part of a restructuring of Luzerne County’s government.
Voters have abandoned the three-commissioner system in favor of a new home rule organization.
