State Approves Geisinger, CMC Merger

For the third time in a year, a hospital in Scranton has a new owner.

Community Medical Center’s merger with Geisinger Health System received approval Monday from the state.

The new partnership will go into effect February first. The news hospital will be called Geisinger Community Medical Center.

Scranton’s other two hospitals, Moses Taylor and the former Mercy are now run by a for-profit health care company out of Tennessee.
