Flames tore through a historic home in Columbia County early Friday.
The fire started just before 1 a.m. in a home on the corner of Market and Third streets in Mifflinville.
The home is vacant but the owner said the place is part of the town’s history.
“It’s one of the oldest buildings in Miffinville. It’s been here for years, but now it’s going to have to go,” said Mary Ellen Moorehead. The fire also destroyed a storage unit in the back. “I just removed my brother’s possessions just this week because he moved into a nursing home, put all his possessions in there.”
The owner said she had planned to turn the house into apartments, but now believes it will have to be torn down.
Authorities have not said what caused the fire in Columbia County.
