A father from Monroe County is now accused of causing his 16-month-old son's death.

Christopher Thomas, 22, of Long Pond was charged Thursday in the death of his son, Dimitrius. Police believe it happened because Thomas was under the influence.

He faces charges including vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.

Police said he was drunk when his vehicle collided with another car, killing his 16-month-old son.

The crash happened on December 10 on a stretch of Route 611 in Tannersville.

Officers said Thomas was making a left turn onto Route 611 and turned right into the path of another car.

Police said the child was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. He was flown from the scene of the crash and died hours later at the hospital.

According to court papers, right after the crash Thomas had his 16-year-old female passenger sit in the driver's seat of the vehicle and then told police she had been driving.

At the hospital, Thomas admitted to police that he was, in fact, the driver.

Thomas is locked up in the Monroe County jail on $25,000 bail.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
