A few weekends ago, downtown Scranton was packed with pink for the annual Race for the Cure, a fundraiser for "Susan G. Komen for the Cure" which works to fund research to fight breast cancer.
Lots of people participating have inspirational stories to share, but one in particular we thought you'd like to see.
It's safe to say that life has significantly changed for Barbara Connolly of Scranton since we first met her last year.
Just a few months ago, she said she got the second biggest shock of her life.
"March 10 of 2008 I found out I had stage two breast cancer. March 10 of this year, 2011, I found out I was pregnant with twins. Things happen for a reason, you know!" Connolly sid.
She and her friend Danielle met us at Nay Aug Park, so we could meet four-month-old twins William and Lexi. Note the pink ribbon on their little hats.
Barbara, now 33, was already a mother of three and a breast cancer survivor when we first talked with her last year.
Back then, she told us of her plans to run the 5K Race for the Cure, having just completed chemotherapy.
She did it, finishing in 31 minutes and taking third place in the survivor category.
But when a few months later, late this February, Barbara didn't quite feel right, she admitted she panicked.
"Cancertitis took over and I feared the worst," Connolly said. "Every ache, every pain, everything you feel you think, this is cancer."
Not quite.
It turns out, Connolly was, much to her shock and delight, about six months pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl, everybody healthy, including mom.
"In April it was three years (cancer free)!" the busy mother said.
Good thing too. Barbara said she has a lot of training to do with a double stroller before next year's race.
Barbara's been engaged to be married for a while. She said life just keeps getting in her way.
She jokes the update next year will hopefully be a big pink wedding.
